Mukesh Kapila, former head of the UN in Sudan and Special Representative for the Aegis Trust appeals for unity to bring change in Sudan
01 June 2014, Video - www.youtube.com
25 years after Bashir seized power in Sudan, former UN Sudan chief Dr Mukesh Kapila appeals for unity to bring change. Some ten million people (refugees, IDPs in Darfur, Blue Nile and Nuba Moutains) are paying the price of Bashir's politics. We need tougher economic sanctions, we must stop treating Sudan as it is a normal country with which you can do normal business. We also must ensure that the ones who committed crimes against humanity are brought to account and justice.

During this interview by Sky News, Prof. Kapila explains why international pressures can make a difference between life and death for the Sudanese people. Governments of the world should examine their economic and financial links to Sudan and ICC indicted President Bashir. Meriam and her suffering is symbolic of the sufferings of the Sudanes people. In an interconnected world where we know what is happening standing away and looking away is longer an option.
